About the project

900 years of memory in stone

The Monastery of San Salvador de Bergondo is one of the most significant medieval monasteries in Galicia. Founded in the 12th century, it has preserved across the centuries the memory of a religious community and a land reflected in its architecture, its stones and its people.

To mark the 900th anniversary of the monastery, this project was created to bring the historical and architectural heritage of San Salvador de Bergondo closer to everyone: locals, visitors and lovers of Galician history.

Guided tours

Through the guided tours, you will discover the history of the monastery across its 9 centuries of memory in stone: its origins, its architectural evolution, the cloister, the Chapel of Santa Catalina, the refectory, the choir and the permanent exhibitions. Tours take place once a week, depending on the monastery's activities, and are subject to changes beyond the organisers' control.
